Launch It Welcomes New Ambassador: BBC Dragon Richard Farleigh

We’re thrilled to announce that Richard Farleigh, renowned investor, entrepreneur, and former BBC Dragon, is joining Launch It as our newest ambassador. This exciting news coincides with our 25th anniversary celebrations, where Richard will also appear as one of our special guest speakers.

Raised in the Australian care system, Richard’s journey to success has been anything but ordinary. He went on to back over 100 early-stage ventures across technology, hospitality, and innovation, after building an impressive career in central banking, hedge fund management, and pioneering financial derivatives. Beyond business, he’s also an author, keynote speaker, and two-time Chess Olympiad competitor.

So, what inspired him to join Launch It?

“I’ve always believed enterprise can change lives, especially for young people who haven’t had the easiest start,” says Richard. “That comes from my own background. I grew up in the care system and had to fend for myself from 18. I know what it’s like to feel the odds are against you.”

He credits mentors and encouragers throughout his life — from teachers to friends — for shaping his journey and wants to pay that forward. “I'm probably the only "Dragon" to have grown up in the care system, so when I came across Launch It and saw the impact it’s had on more than 12,000 young people, it really struck a chord.”

Richard is clear that his role as ambassador is more than symbolic: “This isn’t about lending my name—it’s about standing with young people and showing that where you start doesn’t decide where you finish.”

We’re incredibly excited about what we’ll achieve together with Richard supporting the next generation of founders. With his lived experience and unwavering belief in the power of opportunity, Richard’s backing will be invaluable as we continue to break down barriers for young entrepreneurs.
